Georgetown accepting applications for Legislative Task Force

Apr 2, 2024

The City is seeking Georgetown residents, community leaders, board and commission members, and business representatives who want to provide input on the City’s legislative agenda. Interested residents can apply for the Georgetown Legislative Task Force through April 21.

Roles of the task force include:

  • Reviewing the City’s legislative position statements and providing feedback on needed changes to reflect community perspectives.
  • Providing a resident perspective in discussions with other task force members, City staff, and City partners.
  • Making recommendations on the state’s legislative agenda for the 89th Texas legislative session for City Council consideration.
  • Serving as an advocate for the community during the legislative session.

“What happens at the Texas Legislature affects everything we do here in Georgetown,” City Manager David Morgan said. “In order to be the best advocates for our community, we need an agenda informed by Georgetown residents. We sincerely hope many Georgetown residents will apply, so we can have a diverse task force that truly reflects our city.”

The Georgetown Legislative Task Force is made up of nine members who will meet every other week from May through August in even-numbered years, and ad-hoc as issues arise throughout the legislative session. Members will serve a one-year term on a volunteer basis and will be selected through an application process. Meetings will consist of briefings from City staff on challenges the City faces to help shape the City’s legislative agenda for Council consideration.

Interested residents can apply for the Georgetown Legislative Task Force through April 21 on the City’s website. Once applications close, City Council will appoint the nine members at the May 14 City Council meeting. The committee’s service will then run from May 2024-April 2025 and work to develop a proposed City of Georgetown 2025 Legislative Agenda for the council to consider for adoption.
