Downtown parking garage groundbreaking March 26

Mar 26, 2024

The City broke ground March 26 on the downtown parking garage, 502 S. Main St. The new garage will add an additional 315 parking spaces to downtown.

The parking garage was recommended in the 2015 Downtown Parking Study, which included short-, mid-, and long-term solutions. The new garage is a mid-term solution that fits the City budget and addresses the need for downtown parking in a convenient location.

“We’re thrilled to be breaking ground on this much-needed parking garage for downtown,” Mayor Josh Schroeder said. “This garage helps us address some of our parking challenges downtown and will ensure Georgetown remains a vibrant and welcoming destination for years to come.”

City Council approved a construction contract with Swinerton Builders after a competitive-bid process. WGI of Frisco, Texas, is the design engineer for the garage.

The parking garage is expected to cost $19.8 million and be completed by September 2025. Funding for the project comes from the American Rescue Plan Act, certificates of obligation bonds, and the Downtown Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone.

This project is expected to help address the additional downtown parking needs due to increased activity and reduce the number of visitors parking on neighborhood streets.

The City obtained the property through a public-private partnership land swap in 2022.
