City hosts Arbor Day Tree Giveaway on Nov. 3
The City of Georgetown Parks and Recreation Department will host the Arbor Day Tree Giveaway on Saturday, Nov. 3, from 8:30-11:30 a.m.
Georgetown residents can register in advance to receive one free 5-gallon tree per household. Trees are intended to be planted on private property. Four hundred trees across three varieties, including Shumard Oak, Cedar Elm and Tuscarora Crape Myrtle (20 foot tall hot pink variety), will be available. These trees are native or adapted to the Central Texas climate and soil. Tree species and quantities are limited and available on a first come, first served basis.
Trees can be picked up at the Georgetown Municipal Complex, 300-1 Industrial Ave.

The City of Georgetown is considering a voluntary annexation. The Voluntary Annexation and designation of Public Facilities (PF) zoning district for an approximate 1.42-acre tract in the William Addison Survey, Abstract No. 21, generally located north of E University Ave and west of Inner Loop, to be known as Fire Station No. 7.
Senior Dance at Georgetown Community Center on Sept. 14
The City of Georgetown Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a Senior Adult Dance on Friday, Sept. 14, from 6-9 p.m. at the Georgetown Community Center, 445 E. Morrow St.
The event is designed for, but not limited to, adults age 55 and older. Dress is casual, and light refreshments will be served.
Advanced registration is encouraged. Tickets are $5 per person in advance, $7 per person the week of the dance and at the door. Public Hearings for the Voluntary Annexation of an approximate 262.011-acre tract of land situated in the William Roberts League Survey, Abstract No. 524, and a portion of Shell Road, a right-of-way of varying width of record described to the Williamson County, Texas, and directing publication of notice for proposed annexation, for the property generally located along Shell Road, north of Williams Drive to be known as the Shell Road development.
Public Hearings for the Voluntary Annexation of an approximate 553.463-acre tract of land situated in the B. Manlove Survey, Abstract No. 420, Milton Hicks Survey, Abstract No. 287, P. Weathersby Survey, Abstract No. 680, A.M. Brown Survey, Abstract No. 85, J. C. Thaxton Survey, Abstract No. 756, I. Sauls Survey, Abstract No. 595, and I. & G. N. R. R. Survey, Abstract No. 741, and a portion of Farm to Market Road 2243 (FM 2243), a right-of-way of varying width of record described to the State of Texas, and initial zoning of Public Facilities (PF) zoning district designation, for the property generally located along FM 2243, east of CR 286 and west of Escalera Ranch Parkway, to be known as Garey Park.

2017 Annual Report now available
An annual report for the City of Georgetown for the 2017 fiscal year is now available online and in print copies. The report, titled A Blooming City, highlights projects, initiatives, and financial information for the 2016-17 fiscal year that started on Oct. 1, 2016, and ended on Sept. 30, 2017.
The report highlights projects and initiatives related to the City’s growth, including planning for growth, new construction projects, as well as new initiatives and achievements. A financial section includes details on revenues, expenses, assets, assessed valuation, and taxes.
The annual report is available online here. The document was designed by Presley Design Studio and features photographs by Andy Sharp and City staff.
A limited number of free printed copies of the annual report are available at the Georgetown Public Library, 402 W. Eighth St. Pick up a copy near the book drop in the lobby or at the Reference Desk on the second floor.
The annual report provides a brief overview of the 2017 fiscal year with key financial information. The Comprehensive Annual Financial Report, which is a much longer report for the 2017 fiscal year, is available online at finance.georgetown.org. Click the green box for “Annual Budget/Publications.”
Water Safety Day on May 19 at the Georgetown Recreation Center
The Georgetown Parks and Recreation Department will host a free Water Safety Day event from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday, May 19, at the Georgetown Recreation Center outdoor pool, 1003 N. Austin Ave.
The educational family event is designed to increase public awareness about drowning prevention and water safety as we head into the summer swim season. Attendees will learn important safety topics such as drowning prevention, water rescue skills, and proper life jacket use.
Participating organizations include the Georgetown Fire Department, Georgetown Camp Goodwater, Georgetown Adventure Camp, Georgetown Learn to Swim, Colin’s Hope and the Army Corps of Engineers.
Once attendees visit all of the organizations, they will receive a discount on a seasonal swim pass or summer swim lessons. Attendees are also welcome to stay and swim, and daily pool fees will be waived for this event. Children age 6 and younger must have a guardian actively participating with them in the water at all times.

Proposed Voluntary Annexation of Mourning Dove Subdivision
The City of Georgetown is considering a voluntary annexation of property into the city limits. The Public Hearings will be held at the May 22, 2018 meeting at 3 pm and March 22, 2018 at 6 pm. City Council meetings are located at the City Council Chambers, 101 E. 7th Street, at the northeast corner of Seventh and Main Street. The area being considered for voluntary annexation is approximately an 18.331-acre tract of land situated in the Ruidosa Irrigation Company Survey, located at 118 Mourning Dove, west of FM 1460, north of SE Inner Loop and east of S Austin Ave, to be known as the Mourning Dove Subdivision.
After holding the required public hearings, the City Council will consider an ordinance for the annexation.

Adults with Disabilities Dance at Georgetown Community Center on May 4
The City of Georgetown Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a dance for adults age 18 and older with disabilities Friday, May 4, from 6-8 p.m. at the Georgetown Community Center, 445 E. Morrow St. The theme is Fiesta.
Admission is $5 for participants and includes a meal. Advanced registration is recommended. Only cash or check will be taken at the door. There is no charge for family members or caregivers, and they must remain present at all times.

Proposed Voluntary Annexation of Keyes Tract
The City of Georgetown is considering a voluntary annexation of property into the city limits. The Public Hearings will be held at the May 8, 2018 meeting at 3 pm and March 8, 2018 at 6 pm. City Council meetings are located at the City Council Chambers, 101 E. 7th Street, at the northeast corner of Seventh and Main Street. The area being considered for voluntary annexation is approximately 44.69 acre tract of land, which includes adjacent right-of-way, situated in the Francis A. Hudson Survey, Abstract No. 295, Williamson County, Texas, generally located south of La Conterra Blvd., west of FM 1460, and north of Westinghouse Road to be known as the Keyes Tract.
After holding the required public hearings, the City Council will consider an ordinance for the annexation.

Earth Day programs focus on Monarch butterflies
The Georgetown Public Library along with the Southwestern University Environmental Studies Program and Smith Library Center are co-sponsoring a group of Earth Day events at the Georgetown library, 402 W. Eighth St.
The library will also host two stand-alone discussions on Barbara Kingsolver’s novel “Flight Behavior.” Southwestern University Economics Professor Emily Northrop and Georgetown Assistant Library Director Sally Miculek will lead a book discussion Tuesday, April 17. The second book discussion Monday, April 23, at 7 p.m. will be led by Smith Library Center Director Carol Fonken and Georgetown Fine Arts Librarian Dana Hendrix.
On Monday, April 30, at 7 p.m. David Wolfe, director of conservation strategies at the Environmental Defense Fund, will present “Monarch Butterflies: Threats and What You Can Do to Help.” Northrop will also present a talk on Tuesday, May 8, at 7 p.m. titled “Reducing CO2 Pollution for Monarchs and Humans.”
