Proposed Voluntary Annexation of Maravilla Subdivision

The City of Georgetown is considering a voluntary annexation of property into the city limits.  The Public Hearings will be held at the February 12, 2019 meeting at 3 pm and February 12, 2019 at 6 pm. City Council meetings are located at the City Council Chambers, 101 E. 7th Street, at the northeast corner of Seventh and Main Street.  The area being considered for voluntary annexation is approximately a 23.10-acre tract of land situated in the Joseph Pulsifer Survey, located at 34 Skyline Road, north of W University Ave and east of DB Wood Road, to be known as the Maravilla Subdivision.

After holding the required public hearings, the City Council will consider an ordinance for the annexation.

Georgetown Parks and Recreation hosting breast cancer recovery course

The City of Georgetown Parks and Recreation Department is hosting The Pink Plan, a recovery course for survivors of breast cancer, on Saturday mornings in February.

The program will provide breast cancer survivors who have undergone breast surgery with comprehensive tools for managing post-mastectomy syndrome.

The four-part course provides participants with information, techniques, and tools for self-management to reduce adverse effects such as limited range of motion, loss of functionality, muscle atrophy and muscle weakness. The course will be taught by certified personal trainer Shanna Cahill, a non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and breast cancer survivor.

The Pink Plan will be held Saturday mornings from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Georgetown Recreation Center, 1003 N. Austin Ave. Course fees are $45 for Georgetown residents and $55 for nonresidents.

Georgetown Parks and Recreation hosts Fitness Fusion event

The City of Georgetown Parks and Recreation Department is hosting Fitness Fusion at the Georgetown Recreation Center, 1003 N. Austin Ave., from 9:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Jan. 5.

The event is open to the public and features 14 fitness classes, such as yoga, Zumba, cycling, and Silver Sneakers classes. The goal of the event is to showcase the variety of fitness programs available at the recreation center that accommodate all ages and fitness levels.

During the event, fitness instructors will host 20-minute sample classes in three different locations within the recreation center. Guests can participate in as many classes as they would like.

The event is free for Georgetown Recreation Center members and $5 for nonmembers.

Georgetown Parks and Recreation announces holiday camps

Georgetown Parks and Recreation will offer camps for students during the winter holiday break. Pricing and schedules vary for each program.

Participants can select from three camps:

  • Camp Goodwater is offered on Dec. 27, 28, and 31, Jan. 2-4, and 7, and Feb. 15 and 18. The camp runs from 7 a.m.-6 p.m. for children ages 5-11. The camp includes a variety of activities, such as gym games, trips to local parks, seasonal arts and crafts, and more! Daily fees are $35 for Georgetown residents and $45 for nonresidents.
  • Junior Tennis Academy is offered on Dec. 31 and Jan. 2-4, from 9-11 a.m. for children ages 7-18. Ages 7-10 will focus on developing a solid foundation of stroke development providing the child with the skills to reach the next level. Ages 11-18 will focus on learning, consolidating and perfecting the basics of the game. Daily fees are $20 for Georgetown residents and $25 for nonresidents.
  • Volleyball Camp is offered from Jan. 2-4 from 9 a.m.-noon for children ages 7-14. The camp covers the rules of play for beginners and defense and positions for more advanced players. Fees are $75 for Georgetown residents and $95 for nonresidents.

Election Day today, get a ride to the polls

Voters in Georgetown may cast ballots at any Vote Center location in Williamson County from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day, Nov. 6. Ballots in the City of Georgetown include Proposition A, which is the reauthorization of a dedicated 0.25 percent sales tax for street maintenance.

Georgetown residents can also use the City’s Lyft promo code to get up to $10 off rides that originate in the Georgetown city limits. Passengers are responsible for the first $2 of the cost of the ride. To use the promotion on a Lyft ride in Georgetown, download the Lyft app on an iPhone or Android smartphone and set up a Lyft account using a credit card. Then add the code GTOWNTX18 to the promo section of the Lyft app before requesting a ride.

Adults with Disabilities Dance at Georgetown Community Center on Oct. 26

The City of Georgetown Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a dance for adults age 18 and older with disabilities on Friday, Oct. 26, from 6-8 p.m. at the Georgetown Community Center, 445 E. Morrow St. The theme is Haunted Mansion and costumes are encouraged.

Admission is $5 for participants and includes a meal. Advanced registration is recommended. Only cash or check will be taken at the door. There is no charge for family members or caregivers, and they must remain present at all times.

City hosts Halloween Festival on Oct. 25

The City of Georgetown Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a Halloween Festival on Thursday, Oct. 25, from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at the Georgetown Community Center, 445 E. Morrow St.

The Halloween Festival, now in its 24th year, will feature a free Trick-or-Treat Village, as well as carnival-style games and food.

Attendees are encouraged to participate in the free costume contest, sponsored by Suddenlink. The contest will be held by age group: newborns-age 2 at 6 p.m.; ages 3-5 at 6:30 p.m.; ages 6-8 at 7 p.m.; and ages 9-10 at 7:30 p.m.

Carnival games are 25 cents per ticket, and one or more tickets are required for each game, activity or concession. Pumpkin painting tickets are $2. Only cash will be accepted, and quarters and small bills are appreciated.

Music will be provided by the Georgetown Project in partnership with the Assets After-school Alliance as part of the national Lights On Afterschool event, which calls attention to the importance of after-school programs for America’s children, families, and communities.

Father Daughter Dance returns to Georgetown on Oct. 27

Friends of Georgetown Parks and Recreation is hosting the annual Father Daughter Dance on Saturday, Oct. 27, from 7-9 p.m. at the Georgetown Community Center, 445 E. Morrow St.

Girls age 4 and older are invited to attend with their father or another acceptable escort. The theme is Halloween Costume Ball, and attendees are encouraged to wear a costume.

In addition to dancing, the event features refreshments and light snacks. To remember the special occasion, professional portrait packages will be available for purchase.

Tickets are $15 per person through Oct. 26, and $20 per person at the door. Advance tickets are now on sale at parks.georgetown.org or at the Georgetown Recreation Center, Georgetown Tennis Center or Parks and Recreation Administration Building. Tickets are nonrefundable.

All proceeds benefit Friends of Georgetown Parks and Recreation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization who supports the City of Georgetown Parks and Recreation Department in providing programs and facilities to promote the social, cultural and recreational well-being of all Georgetown residents.

The City of Georgetown is considering voluntary annexations. The Public Hearings for these proposed annexations will be held at the October 23, 2018 3:00 pm Special Meeting and the October 23, 2018 6:00 pm Regular City Council meeting, located at the City Council Chambers, 101 E. 7th Street, at the northeast corner of Seventh and Main Street.  The areas being considered for annexation are:

Public Hearing for the Voluntary Annexation and designation of initial zoning to Local Commercial (C-1) zoning district upon annexation for an approximate 6.375-acre tract in the Lewis P. Dyches Survey, Abstract No. 171, and County Road (CR) 245, a right-of-way of varying width described to Williamson County, Texas, generally located at Ronald Reagan Boulevard and CR 245, to be known as the Highland Village 2 Non-Residential Tract.

Public Hearing for the Voluntary Annexation and designation of initial zoning to Public Facilities (PF) zoning district upon annexation for an approximate 22.896-acres to include adjacent right-of-way in the William Addison League Survey, Abstract No. 21, generally east of CR 110 and North of CR 111, to be known as Georgetown ISD Elementary School No. 7.
