Solid Waste & Recycling

FAQ

I live in town and have very little garbage. Can I cancel my garbage service?

Everyone within the city limits of Georgetown is required to receive garbage service from the City. This is how we guarantee that the entire City is handled by a licensed and responsible solid waste provider thatl maintains the high standards set by the City. Utility customers outside the city limits have the option of using City sanitation services or not.

What exactly can I put out at the curb on my garbage day?

Residents are allowed to dispose of one City provided cart plus 5 additional bags or bundles in their weekly pickup. This includes household garbage and brush, if properly bundled. (Brush must be cut in 4-ft lengths and tied in bundles weighing no more than 35 pounds each.) No loose brush or limbs, bulky waste or toxic material will be picked up.

What is considered bulky waste and how do I get rid of it?

Bulky waste is any large or heavy item or material such as furniture, mattresses, toilets, refrigerators, stoves, washers, dryers, batteries, tires, bikes, boards, construction material, etc. Residents are allowed to bring 2 cubic yards of waste to the Collection Station at 250 W.L. Walden Dr (off North College St) free each month, and can dispose of an additional 4 cubic yards for $7 each. You will be required to show a current City of Georgetown utility bill with garbage service and your driver's license to dump. You can also call TDS at (512) 930-1715 or email aucustomercare@texasdisposal.com to schedule a special curbside pickup. This service is provided at no additional cost to in-City residents.

Does the Collection Station take any hazardous waste?

For a small fee, residential garbage customers may dispose of vehicle batteries, antifreeze, motor oil and oil filters.  They may also dispose of tires, refrigerators and window air conditioning units. The Collection Station will not accept paint or paint products, insecticides, pesticides, cleaning or refinishing products or chemicals, medical waste, ammunition, explosives, or gas or gas products. If there is a question as to the acceptability of any item, please call TDS at (512) 930-1715 or email aucustomercare@texasdisposal.com before you transport it to the Collection Station.
