Trade Contractor Permit

The purpose of licensing and registration is to insure that Trade Contractors working in the City of Georgetown meet minimum standards as required by Code to safeguard life, health, property, and public welfare. All Trade Contractors are required to provide proof of experience, pursuant to local requirements and state licensing laws.

What do I need to obtain a License or Registration?

Required information is dependent upon the trade and type of license. The City of Georgetown does not charge fees for Registration of Licenses.

Electrical License: To obtain an Electrical License in the City of Georgetown the following criteria must be submitted, as required by the Electrical Ordinance. Only Master Electricians may obtain permits in the City of Georgetown.

• Letter(s) of recommendation from previous employers
• Proof of years of experience
• Copies of Electrical Licenses from other cities (The City of Georgetown does not reciprocate with other cities)
• Copy of current State of Texas Driver's license
• Proof of passing score on certification test from SBCCI
• Copy of liability insurance
• Completed Application
• Fee, see bottom of Application for applicable fee

Plumbing License: Only registered Master Plumbers may obtain a City of Georgetown plumbing permit. To become registered in the City of Georgetown as a State of Texas licensed Master Plumber, the following items will need to be submitted.

• Copy of unexpired and unrevoked State of Texas Master Plumber's License
• Copy of current State of Texas Drivers License
• Copy of liability insurance

Mechanical License: Mechanical permits cover refrigeration and air conditioning. To obtain a Mechanical permit the following criteria must be met by the Mechanical Contractor:

• Copy of State of Texas Mechanical License
• Copy of current State of Texas Drivers License

As the homeowner can I pull my own permits?

A Homestead Exemption permit may be issued to non-licensed individuals to perform plumbing, electrical and mechanical work within the dwelling premises that they own and occupy. Before beginning any work, the unlicensed person must first sign an affidavit stating that the applicant owns and occupies the structure and is responsible for conducting the work to code specifications, provide proof of ownership from Williamson County Appraisal District and pay all required permit fees. Homeowner exemptions do not apply to rental or commercial properties.
