Electrical Permits

The purpose of licensing and registration is to ensure that contractors working in the City of Georgetown provide minimum standards as required by Code to safeguard life, health, property, and public welfare. Licensing and registration also provides for control of the design, construction, quality of materials, use of occupancy, location and maintenance of all buildings and structures.


What do I need to Obtain a License or Registration?

Required information is dependent upon the trade and type of license.

Electrical License: To obtain an Electrical License in the City of Georgetown the following criteria must be submitted

  • Letter(s) of recommendation from previous employers
  • Copies of Electrical Licenses from other cities (The City of Georgetown does not reciprocate with other cities)
  • Copy of current State of Texas Driver's license
  • Proof of passing score on certification test from SBCCI
  • Completed Application (Electrical License Application)
  • Fee, see bottom of Application for applicable fee

Plumbing License: All new or replacement water, gas, or sewer service, as well as additions, require a permit before work is started. To become registered in the City of Georgetown as a licensed plumber the following will need to be submitted. Only registered Master Plumbers may obtain a plumbing permit

  • Copy of unexpired and unrevoked State of Texas Master Plumber's License
  • Copy of State of Texas Drivers License Mechanical License: Mechanical permits cover refrigeration and air conditioning. To obtain a Mechanical permit the following criteria must be met
  • Copy of a State of Texas Mechanical License . City of Texas Drivers License


As the homeowner can I pull my own permits?

A Homestead Exemption permit may be issued to non-licensed individuals to perform plumbing, electrical and mechanical work within the dwelling premises that are owned by that person. Before beginning any work, the unlicensed person must first sign an affidavit that the homeowner is responsible for conducting the work to code specifications, and shall pay all required permit fees.
