Transportation Services Overview

Department Description

The Street Department manages, maintains and repairs City streets and rights-of-way. Responsibilities include traffic control, emergency response operations, special events, and assistance in code enforcement. Daily, the department inspects roadways for sign repair, pavement management, and sight obstructions. The Street Department participates with the Safety Committee to provide safety-training workshops.


Major Department Goals

1.Partner with the State, County, adjoining municipalities, other departments and the public to develop and maintain a comprehensive Transportation Plan.
2.Protect the investment in the public transportation system through preventive maintenance and ongoing rehabilitation of streets and sidewalks.


Transportation Plan

Working with the consulting firm of Wilbur Smith Associates, the City has recently initiated an update to the Overall Transportation Plan; information on that process may be found at http://www.wilbursmith.com/GeorgetownOTP/.


Roadway Obstructions

To report a dead animal on a City of Georgetown street or roadway, call Georgetown Utility Systems at 512/930-3555 during weekday business hours. The Transportation Services Department will pick up the animal. To report a dead animal on a County road, call Williamson County at 512/930-4300. To report a dead animal on a state roadway (e.g., Williams Drive, Austin Ave., Leander Rd., University Ave.), call the Texas Department of Transportation at 512/930-4700. If the animal poses a traffic hazard, call the Georgetown Police Department at 512/930-3510.
