Planning Overview
The general reason for planning our communities is to realize the common values that are vital to our individual and collective well being.
The environmental purposes of community planning include:
- An efficient system of circulation within the city and to the outside world;
- An adequate and economical water supply, sewerage, utilities, and public services;
- Safe, sanitary, and comfortable housing in a variety of dwelling types to meet the needs of all residents;
- Quality recreational opportunities, schools, and other community services
- Orderly arrangement of the different components of the city - residential, commercial, industrial - so that each part can perform its functions with a minimum cost and conflict; and
- Development of each part of the City to optimum standards.
These values have been expressed over the years by its citizens of Georgetown to their elected officials and are reflected in the Century Plan, Unified Development Code and other City codes.
