City hosts Sunset Movie Series at Fountainwood Observatory on May 19

May 18, 2017

The City of Georgetown Parks and Recreation Department, in partnership with Southwestern University, presents “E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial” on Friday, May 19, at the Fountainwood Observatory, 921 Southwestern Blvd.

This is a free community event. The movie starts at sunset, about 8:15 p.m. Moviegoers are welcome to bring blankets, chairs and picnics. The observatory will remain open during the movie, and attendees are welcome to view the sky through the telescopes. Please note that alcohol is strictly prohibited at this event.

Southwestern University’s Fountainwood Observatory Public Nights are popular community events that have attracted more than 12,000 visitors since the program’s inception in 1997. A variety of telescopes will be available to explore the bright constellations laced with star clusters and nebulae wheel overhead. Physics Department faculty and talented observers from the Williamson County Astronomy Club will also be on hand.

The Observatory is located on the northeast side of campus adjacent to the Rockwell Baseball Field. Parking is available along Southwestern Boulevard.
