Veterans Day Ceremony in Sun City November 11

The annual Veterans Day ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, November 11 at the Georgetown-Williamson County Veterans Memorial Plaza in Sun City. The ceremony honors all those veterans who have served in our military forces and those men and women who are serving today. The event is free and open to the public.

The East View High School band, orchestra, and choir will provide music beginning at 10:45 a.m. Maj. Gen. John Uberti, deputy commanding general of III Corps and Fort Hood, will be the guest speaker at the ceremony.

Master Sgt. John Wood, a retired Air Force officer, will assist Georgetown Mayor Dale Ross in placing a wreath at the Memorial Wall in honor of all servicemen and women. Chief Master Sgt. Tim Timko, a retired Air Force officer, will assist Williamson County Commissioner Valerie Covey in placing a second wreath at the Memorial Wall in memory of the 175 servicemen from Williamson County who have given their lives in combat.

Sgt. Thomas McNeil of the Continental Army will be memorialized by dedication of a tree and plaque behind the Memorial Wall. His great-great-great-great-grandson, Marine Cpl. Daniel E. McNeil, will represent the family and make remarks.

Parking is available at the Social Center at 2 Texas Drive and across the street at the Activities Center at 1 Texas Drive. Seven-hundred folding chairs will be placed at the Memorial for seating. Guests also are invited to bring a folding chair and sit under the trees. The Community Association will serve refreshments on the Social Center patio after the ceremony.

Location: The Georgetown-Williamson County Veterans Memorial Plaza is located in the Sun City neighborhood at 2 Texas Drive in Georgetown.

Rain location: In case of rain, the event will be held in the ballroom at the Sun City Social Center, 2 Texas Drive.
